Accelerating the frontiers of scientific discovery: Google’s $40M commitment to the Genesis Mission
deepmind ·
Google announced a $40 million commitment of AI tokens and cloud credits to support the White House's Genesis Mission, a national effort to double the pace of American scientific discovery within a decade. At the DOE Genesis Mission Summit 2026, Google expanded its earlier work with the DOE National Laboratories by providing Genesis Mission awardees in-kind access to DeepMind's AI for science tools, including AlphaEvolve, AlphaFold 3, AlphaGenome, WeatherNext, and AlphaEarth Foundations. The company will also give Gemini for Government seats and tokens for one year to tens of thousands of users across the DOE National Laboratories. Examples of impact include researchers at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory using AlphaEvolve to explore complex mathematical systems, and scientists at the National Laboratory of the Rockies using Gemini to cut microscope calibration time from over 90 minutes to about 13 minutes. The authors state that the Genesis Mission represents an opportunity to transform research and science across America by helping scientists accelerate breakthroughs in energy, security, and scientific challenges.
