Accessing OpenAI models on Amazon Bedrock from Australia with global cross-Region inference
aws ·
Amazon Bedrock now lets Australian teams access OpenAI GPT-5.6 models (Sol, Terra, and Luna) from the Asia Pacific Sydney and Melbourne Regions using global cross-Region inference, which automatically routes requests to supported commercial AWS Regions. GPT-5.6 Sol targets demanding reasoning, coding, and agentic workloads; Terra balances performance and cost; Luna offers fast, affordable inference for high-volume, latency-sensitive applications. All models accept text and image inputs, generate text, and support context windows of up to 1 million tokens. The post explains how to invoke these models through the OpenAI Responses API, OpenAI Chat Completions API, and Amazon Bedrock Converse API, including code examples. It also covers using implicit and explicit prompt caching, configuring Codex with OIDC-based authentication, managing on-demand quotas, and monitoring usage with Amazon CloudWatch and Coding Agent Insights.
