Agentic Resource Discovery (ARD): An open specification for agent discovery
aws ·
The article introduces AWS Agent Registry, a centralized catalog for discovering AI agents, MCP servers, tools, and other resources, addressing the challenge of siloed resources as organizations scale their AI use. It explains the registry's core concepts of registries and registry records, along with a workflow involving creation, publishing, curation, and discovery, and highlights enterprise features like approval workflows, hybrid search, MCP-native access, and flexible authorization. To solve the multi-environment challenge, the article presents Agentic Resource Discovery (ARD), an open specification under Apache License 2.0 that enables federated discovery across different clouds, on-premises systems, and SaaS platforms using a common protocol. ARD is positioned as a complement to AWS Agent Registry, allowing organizations to federate without migrating, maintain local control while enabling global discovery, and publish catalogs for cross-organizational discovery. The authors invite feedback as both AWS Agent Registry and support for open discovery standards evolve.
