Mistral has introduced Agentic Search, a retrieval layer that lets AI models actively search, navigate, read, and verify information within complex documents. It provides five tools—search, open, navigate, read, and grep—that build on existing search indexes without requiring fine-tuning. The system addresses limitations of traditional one-shot RAG by enabling iterative retrieval and targeted inspection, which is especially useful for long, dense documents like financial filings and government records. Benchmark results show substantial accuracy gains: on FinanceBench, correctness on financial filings improved from 26.7% to 86%, and on OfficeQA Pro, accuracy rose from 6.3% to 51.9%. Agentic Search also reduces p90 latency by up to 39.6% and token consumption by up to one-third by replacing repeated broad searches with precise navigation. The technology is available through the Mistral Search Toolkit and integrated into Libraries in both Studio and Vibe, and it is model-agnostic, improving as underlying models improve.
