Agility Robotics & Fort Robotics Expand Partnership For Humanoid Robot Safety
aiinsider ·
Agility Robotics and Fort Robotics have expanded their multiyear partnership to develop a comprehensive safety architecture for Digit 5, Agility’s next-generation humanoid robot. The collaboration focuses on creating a three-part system that includes a safety pendant, onboard communications, and an off-robot interface known as the Offboard Safety Bridge. This agreement marks a strategic shift for Fort, moving from a component supplier to a joint partner in hardware development, regulatory compliance, and deployment support. The new safety features are designed to enable cooperatively safe operation, allowing Digit 5 to work securely alongside humans in warehouses and manufacturing facilities. Previous versions of Digit have already logged over 65,000 operating hours at major sites including Schaeffler and Toyota. The expansion coincides with significant corporate developments, as Fort pursues a merger valuing it at approximately $556.6 million while Agility advances its own $2.5 billion merger deal. Industry leaders emphasize that robust safety layers are essential for gaining trust in physical AI applications.
