Agility Robotics has unveiled Digit 5, the latest iteration of its humanoid warehouse robot, which is designed to operate safely alongside human workers without the need for physical safety fences. The system utilizes AI and sensors to detect nearby people, allowing the robot to stop or step aside while emitting visual and audio warnings to ensure safety. As the first partner for Nvidia's Halos safety platform, Agility highlights that its previous model, Digit 4, was the first humanoid to pass an independent OSHA safety review on a production line. The new Digit 5 features enhanced capabilities, including a lifting capacity of 22.7 kg, which is 40 percent greater than its predecessor, and swappable grippers for versatile tasks. It boasts rapid charging times of nine minutes for ninety minutes of runtime, enabling over twenty hours of daily operation. Building on the success of Digit 4, which logged over 65,000 hours with major clients like Amazon and GXO, the company reports orders exceeding $300 million. First deliveries are scheduled to begin in early 2027, including in the European Union, from a manufacturing facility in Salem, Oregon.
