AI-Designed Drug Shows Signs of Lowering Biological Age in Early Clinical Study
aiinsider ·
A phase 2a clinical trial of rentosertib, an AI-designed drug for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), showed protein changes linked to lower biological age. Researchers reported in Nature Biotechnology that six machine-learning aging clocks detected biological-age reductions in treated participants, with the most consistent results for the 30-milligram twice-daily dose. The 12-week study included 42 participants and analyzed serum proteins. The findings do not prove the drug slows aging or extends life. Improvements in lung function did not fully explain the aging-clock results, but the small study could not separate the drug's anti-fibrotic activity from a possible anti-aging effect. The researchers suggest testing in larger and non-IPF populations, and they propose incorporating aging endpoints into clinical trials for age-related diseases.
