AI Models Built From Rat Brains Just Got Closer to Reality
wired ·
The Biological Computing Company (TBC) has partnered with Amazon Web Services to make its biological AI models available to enterprise customers. This startup utilizes neural patterns from rat brain cells and human stem cells to enhance video generation algorithms. By mapping visual information onto multi-electrode silicon arrays, TBC mimics how biological neurons process data to improve computational efficiency. The company claims its technology can generate videos up to five times faster than existing open-source frontier models while significantly reducing inference costs. AWS highlights TBC's pragmatic approach to integrating biology into current generative AI standards rather than attempting to reinvent core architectures. Despite this progress, challenges remain regarding the scalability of living cell cultures and maintaining fidelity in longer video outputs. TBC has secured over $50 million in funding since its founding four years ago by neuroscientists Alexander Ksendzovsky and Jon Pomeraniec.
