Amazon Bedrock expands Claude model availability to in-country inferencing in India
aws ·
Amazon Bedrock has expanded the availability of Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5, and Claude Haiku 4.5 models to enable in-country inferencing within India. This new capability utilizes geographic cross-Region inference, allowing customers to process data locally through endpoints in the Mumbai and Hyderabad regions. By routing requests exclusively between these two Indian regions, AWS helps organizations meet local data residency requirements while maintaining high throughput and consistent performance during traffic peaks. The service ensures that input prompts and output results remain within India, leveraging end-to-end encryption for data in transit without storing customer data in destination regions. Users can access these models via the Amazon Bedrock console playground or programmatically using the Anthropic Messages API, InvokeModel API, and Converse API. Implementation requires specific prerequisites, including an active AWS account, configured CLI, and necessary SDKs like Boto3 and the Anthropic Python package. Monitoring tools such as CloudWatch and AWS Cost Explorer are available to track usage, performance, and costs associated with these generative AI applications.
