Amazon blocks Meta's AI agent Muse from online shopping
decoder ·
Amazon has blocked Meta's AI agent, Muse, from accessing its online shopping platform after the agent began browsing without a prior agreement. Amazon cites security concerns, noting that Muse does not identify itself as an AI and appears to store customer data during its sessions. Consequently, users now encounter warnings stating that unauthorized AI agents violate Amazon's terms of service. Despite this technical block, Meta maintains that Muse does not have access to sensitive information like passwords or payment details. This incident is part of a broader conflict between Amazon and various companies developing AI-driven shopping tools, including Perplexity, Google, and OpenAI. Interestingly, Amazon and Meta remain business partners, highlighted by a billion-dollar deal signed in April for Amazon's cloud chips. Muse launched on September 8 and quickly became the most-downloaded free app in the US App Store within a week.
