Amazon Expands Alexa for Shopping with New AI Tools for Alerts and Scam Detection
aiinsider ·
Amazon introduced two new AI-driven features for its Alexa for Shopping assistant. The first, called 'Update Me When,' allows shoppers to set personalized alerts for events such as brand product launches, book releases, artist tours, or new device unveilings. The second feature helps users verify whether messages claiming to be from Amazon are legitimate or scams, using AI to compare suspicious messages against Amazon's global message history by analyzing sender details, content, timing, and metadata. Amazon noted that roughly 360,000 customers annually contact support with such authenticity questions, and the system is expected to improve as more users flag suspicious messages. This anti-scam tool builds on earlier efforts like a dedicated verification email and an online reporting form introduced this year. These launches are part of Amazon's broader AI strategy for Alexa, which already includes capabilities such as deal sourcing, shopping guide creation, price-history tracking, AI-generated product overviews, handwritten list transcription, and automatic cart building. Alexa for Shopping remains available on Amazon's website and mobile app.
