AMD to Acquire World Labs in $8.2B All-Stock Deal
aiinsider ·
AMD has agreed to acquire World Labs in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $8.2 billion, aiming to integrate the startup's spatial-intelligence and AI research capabilities into its broader hardware and systems business. World Labs specializes in developing models for generating, reconstructing, and simulating interactive 3D environments, as well as technology for robot learning and simulation. The deal is expected to close by the end of 2026, pending regulatory approvals and other customary conditions. Fei-Fei Li, co-founder of World Labs, will join AMD as executive vice president and chief scientist after the transaction closes. AMD CEO Lisa Su noted that the acquisition brings essential model-development expertise closer to their infrastructure, supporting future AI workloads in areas like robotics and physical AI. The two companies had previously collaborated on model training and inference optimization using AMD GPUs, with Su also being an early investor in World Labs. This strategic move allows World Labs to access greater scale and tighter integration with computing infrastructure while continuing its AI model research under AMD.
