An Anthropic researcher’s doomsday warning comes at a very interesting time
techcrunch ·
An Anthropic researcher resigned this week and warned in a post on X that the company is racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. The company’s own alignment lead co-signed the message rather than walking it back. TechCrunch notes that such doomer warnings have appeared in the AI industry before, but this one lands differently because Anthropic is reportedly preparing for an IPO. On the Equity podcast, hosts Kirsten Korosec, Anthony Ha, and Sean O’Kane discussed the warning and what it says about the industry’s race toward increasingly capable models. The episode also covered Apple’s first big event under new CEO John Ternus, where Apple leaned hard into AI and always-on features in the Watch and AirPods may matter more than the new foldable iPhone. Other topics included Stokes Space’s $1 billion raise amid SpaceX winding down Falcon rockets, investors putting $2 billion into coding startup Cognition at a $48 billion valuation, and a $50 million seed round for floating nuclear reactors to help power AI data centers.
