Anthropic continues compute-gobbling streak in $45B deal with Nscale
techcrunch ·
Anthropic has reportedly signed a $45 billion deal to rent AI compute from British infrastructure company Nscale, according to a source familiar with the agreement. Nscale, founded in 2024, will provide computing power using Nvidia's Vera Rubin chip system, with capacity expected to come online in late 2027. The six-year deal will draw from Nscale's data center in West Virginia. This move is part of Anthropic's broader effort to aggressively expand its compute capacity over the past eight months to compete with rivals like OpenAI. Other recent compute partnerships include a $10 billion deal with Volta, a $5 billion deal with AMD, a large arrangement with SpaceX, and expanded agreements with Amazon, Google, and Broadcom. The article notes that Anthropic is not alone, as Google, OpenAI, and Meta are also pursuing massive compute capacity.
