Anthropic is setting up a biology lab where Claude guides robots through drug experiments
decoder ·
Anthropic is establishing a physical biology laboratory in the San Francisco area to advance AI-driven drug development beyond digital simulations. The facility will utilize robots guided by Claude, Anthropic's AI model, to conduct experiments with minimal human intervention. To support this initiative, the company has released two key tools: Claude Science for researchers and the Model Hardware Standard for equipment control. Eric Kauderer-Abrams, head of Anthropic's life sciences division, aims to target diseases previously considered undruggable by designing complex multi-target antibodies. This expansion follows Anthropic's acquisition of Coefficient Bio for approximately $400 million earlier this year. Additionally, Novartis CEO Vas Narasimhan has joined Anthropic's board to strengthen its pharmaceutical connections. Despite these advancements, Anthropic has stated it will not conduct clinical trials itself to avoid conflicting with existing pharmaceutical companies.
