Anthropic loses product lead Catherine Wu behind Claude Code to OpenAI

Anthropic has lost Catherine Wu, the product lead for Claude Code, to competitor OpenAI. Wu will join OpenAI to manage product strategy for its Core Products division, a move that highlights the intense rivalry between the two AI firms. Thibault Sottiaux, head of Codex and ChatGPT at OpenAI, humorously welcomed her with the nickname "CatGPT." Wu stated her goal is to develop agents that reduce user workload while maintaining human oversight. She noted that Claude Code has evolved from a manual internal tool to one where users now trust the AI's judgment by default. Additionally, growth marketing manager Austin Lau is also transitioning from Anthropic to OpenAI. Other key talent, including engineers Thariq Shihipar and Anthony Morris, have recently left Anthropic, though their next destinations remain unclear.
