Anthropic officially files for its public debut
techcrunch ·
Anthropic has officially filed for an initial public offering, marking a significant milestone in its journey toward becoming a publicly traded company. The AI firm plans to list under the ticker symbol "ANT" and reported $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026, a substantial increase from the previous year. Despite this revenue growth, the company recorded an operating loss of $693 million and a net loss of $80.7 billion, largely due to noncash accounting adjustments related to convertible debt. Anthropic disclosed that it may not achieve or sustain profitability in the future, while highlighting a strong enterprise customer base with thousands of high-spending clients. A key feature of the filing is the governance structure, which allows the seven co-founders to retain 50.1% of voting power through a "Founder LLC." This arrangement aims to preserve the company's AI safety mission but has drawn controversy because it decouples voting rights from economic ownership. Consequently, public shareholders will have limited control over a company that acknowledges its technology poses potential existential risks. The specific amount Anthropic hopes to raise and its proposed share price have not yet been disclosed.
