techcrunch ·
Anthropic has released Opus 5.5, a new AI model that sets a new state-of-the-art in coding and knowledge work performance while significantly lowering costs. The model outperforms the larger Fable model in many benchmarks and is priced at $20 per million output tokens, down from $25 for its predecessor. Anthropic describes Opus 5.5 as their strongest-performing model to date, featuring improved communication styles that prioritize clarity and reduce jargon. This release follows CEO Dario Amodei’s recent commitment to pacing AI capabilities to align with safety advancements. Due to its high capability in biology and cybersecurity, Opus 5.5 is subject to the same usage safeguards as the Fable model. Additional models, Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5, are expected to launch in the coming weeks with similar improvements. Anthropic emphasizes ongoing investments in safety training and external evaluation to manage risks associated with more advanced systems.
