Anthropic Unifies Claude’s Memory Across Chat and Cowork
aiinsider ·
Anthropic has announced a major update that unifies Claude's memory system across its chat interface and Claude Cowork, allowing the AI assistant to retain context no matter which product is used. This change addresses the common issue of users having to repeatedly brief the AI on information it already knows. Claude will now display what it has stored in memory, enabling users to read, edit, or delete information on any topic. The update allows smoother transitions between research and action, as Cowork will already understand context from earlier conversations, such as project details, headcounts, locations, or speaker lists. Instead of summarizing conversations only at the end, Claude now adds topics to memory continuously, syncing updates between chat and Cowork even mid-conversation. Anthropic stated that sensitive personal information like health data, race, religion, and political or gender identity will not be stored by default, though users can opt in, while government IDs and criminal history will never be saved. The feature is enabled by default across Free, Pro, and Max plans.
