ANYbotics has commenced commercial deliveries of the ANYmal X, a quaduped inspection robot specifically engineered for explosive industrial environments such as oil, gas, and chemical facilities. The Zurich-based company announced that major clients including Equinor and DSM-Firmenich are now receiving the units, which were developed to operate safely in hazardous atmospheres where equipment must not serve as an ignition source. To meet strict ATEX and IECEx safety standards, the robot features sealed nitrogen-filled chambers for its AI computer and flameproof enclosures for its battery and actuators. During an early-access program starting in 2023, industry giants like BP, Shell, and BASF tested the system across hundreds of missions before this launch. The robot utilizes thermal, visual, acoustic, and gas sensors to autonomously inspect infrastructure while keeping human workers out of danger. Its data is integrated into plant operations via the Shift software platform, connecting with existing maintenance systems from providers like SAP and Yokogawa. This deployment marks a significant expansion of physical AI capabilities into previously inaccessible high-risk industrial zones.
