Apple brings a fully revamped Siri built on Google's Gemini, but not to the EU

Apple has finally released a beta version of its completely revamped Siri, which is powered by Google's Gemini models and operates through a combination of on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute. This new iteration aims to understand personal context from messages and photos, read screen content, and execute cross-app tasks, marking a significant shift from the previous system. While early testers from outlets like TechCrunch and Six Colors praise practical improvements in multi-step requests and contextual awareness, some users report ongoing issues with misunderstandings and hallucinations. The update is part of the iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 software releases and currently supports English only, with additional languages planned for next month. Despite these advancements, Apple has confirmed that Siri AI will not be available in the European Union or China at launch due to regulatory and privacy considerations. In addition to Siri, Apple is rolling out various other AI features across its ecosystem, including enhanced tools in Photos, Safari, and Shortcuts. The company maintains that personal data is neither stored nor made accessible to them during this cloud-assisted processing.
