Apple is reportedly cutting budgets for its internal AI usage
techcrunch ·
Apple is reportedly reducing the daily spending limits for its engineering teams' internal AI usage, marking a significant shift from previous strategies. According to Bloomberg, the company lowered the cap from $300 to $200 in October, with further reductions potentially bringing some allowances down to $100 per day. For non-engineering staff, Apple is considering even stricter limits as low as $25 daily. This move follows a brief period earlier this year where companies encouraged widespread AI adoption, known as tokenmaxxing, to boost efficiency. However, rising costs and unclear productivity gains have led many firms to adopt more fiscally conservative approaches like token rationing. Concerns remain regarding the disparity between the high expenses of building and running AI systems and the tangible benefits they provide. TechCrunch has contacted Apple for comment on these reported budget cuts.
