Apple Presents New Evidence in Trade Secret Lawsuit Against OpenAI
aiinsider ·
Apple has submitted new evidence in its trade secret lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging that former employee Chang Liu, now at OpenAI, used a confidential Apple circuit schematic and an internal engineering tool in his work. The evidence came after Liu's lawyers handed over his former Apple work laptop for investigation, which Apple described as limited and delayed. Apple also claims OpenAI knew about Liu's access and that Liu got a colleague, Yu-Ting Peng, to help destroy evidence after learning of the probe. OpenAI previously defended Liu, saying he only accessed Apple files after leaving to help former colleagues and blamed Apple's system management failures, but Apple disputes this, saying Liu exploited an authentication bug. Apple is seeking a preliminary injunction to stop OpenAI from developing hardware based on its technology and is requesting expedited discovery, noting that more than 400 former Apple employees now work at OpenAI. TechCrunch has asked OpenAI for comment on the new allegations.
