Apple shares ‘shocking evidence’ against former employee accused of stealing company data for OpenAI

Apple has submitted what it calls “shocking evidence” in its lawsuit alleging that former employees stole trade secrets for OpenAI’s benefit. The evidence came after former Apple employee Chang Liu’s legal team provided his old work laptop for investigation. Apple claims Liu used a confidential circuit schematic and a tool sharing a name with an internal Apple engineering application while working at OpenAI. It also alleges that OpenAI knew about Liu’s access to Apple data and that Liu and OpenAI colleague Yu-Ting Peng tried to destroy evidence after learning of the investigation. OpenAI has said Liu accessed Apple files only to help former colleagues and blamed Apple for failing to properly manage former employees’ system access, while Apple says Liu exploited a previously unknown authentication bug. Apple is seeking a preliminary injunction blocking OpenAI from developing hardware based on Apple technology and expedited discovery, citing concerns that other former employees may be involved.
