Apple Watch’s AI features for rewinding and recapping conversations begin beta testing
techcrunch ·
Apple has begun beta testing its new AI-powered Audio Intelligence features for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, initially available to developers in iOS 27.3. The suite includes four opt-in capabilities: sound recognition for accessibility, song identification via Shazam, Live Rewind, and Siri Recaps. Live Rewind allows users to view text snippets of conversations from the last 15 seconds by double-pressing the digital crown, with automatic deletion after 30 seconds if not saved. Siri Recaps provides high-level summaries of conversations using bullet points rather than full transcriptions, omitting speaker identification and raw audio. To address privacy concerns, Apple employs on-device processing and encrypted transmission to Private Cloud Compute, ensuring that sensitive data is handled securely and deleted immediately after use. Users can manually enable these features or set schedules, and they are prompted to review and save recaps within seven days. These tools aim to assist with note-taking and information retention while respecting the privacy of those around the wearer.
