As AI agents reshape the web, Google opens Gemini and Search to more apps
techcrunch ·
Google has launched the beta version of its Connected Apps Platform, enabling businesses to integrate their applications with Google Search and Gemini AI. This initiative allows developers to connect services like Canva or YouTube Music directly into Google's ecosystem using Model Context Protocol servers. The move aims to shift user behavior by letting consumers access third-party tools through preferred AI interfaces rather than standalone apps. Currently available to U.S. developers, the platform lets creators register, test, and monitor app performance while maintaining brand control. Google already supports over 50 connected apps in Gemini, including partners like Adobe and Peloton, which will soon expand to Google Search. New integrations such as the meditation app Calm are also scheduled for release across both platforms. This development mirrors the impact of SEO, potentially becoming a crucial step for visibility in the emerging agentic web.
