Bank of America kindly asks that you don’t share your banking password with your AI assistant
techcrunch ·
Bank of America has issued a stern warning to its customers, advising them never to share their banking credentials with AI agents or tools. In an email titled “Protecting your finances in the Al World,” the financial giant emphasized that users must not provide usernames and passwords to any outside service, including AI-enabled assistants. This guidance comes as banks struggle with unauthorized agents accessing customer funds while exploring new agentic payment technologies. Sharing login details poses significant risks, such as unauthorized transactions, account locks due to suspicious activity, or credential leaks through security flaws in AI platforms. The bank clarified that customers remain fully responsible for any activity resulting from shared access, as per standard account agreements. Despite these warnings, the trend of handing over logins to personal AI assistants continues to grow. Bank of America did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding this specific advisory.
