Bank of America Warns Customers Against Sharing Banking Credentials With AI Agents
aiinsider ·
Bank of America has issued a warning to its customers advising them against sharing their banking usernames and passwords with AI agents. In an email titled “Protecting your finances in the AI World,” the bank emphasized that login details should never be given to outside services, including AI-enabled tools acting on behalf of users. The institution highlighted several risks associated with this practice, such as unauthorized financial moves, potential account locks due to fraud detection systems, and security vulnerabilities that could expose credentials to hackers. This guidance arrives as financial institutions grapple with the challenge of allowing safe connections between customer accounts and autonomous AI tools for tasks like agentic payments. A spokesperson confirmed the authenticity of the email and reiterated that customers remain liable for any activity resulting from shared credentials, consistent with standard account agreements. The bank noted that while banks are still developing safe methods to integrate AI assistants, current protocols strictly prohibit credential sharing.
