OpenAI has significantly increased its bug bounty payouts to enhance security, allowing researchers to earn up to $172,000 for their contributions. Critical vulnerabilities in core products such as ChatGPT and Codex now offer rewards of up to $30,000, while exceptional findings can yield as much as $100,000. By adding quality, loyalty, and campaign bonuses, the total potential earnings reach approximately $172,000. This new structure places OpenAI on par with Google’s general vulnerability program, though it remains below the top-tier offers from Apple or Microsoft for OS-level exploits. The company introduced a five-tier loyalty program and time-limited campaigns with boosted payouts linked to new feature launches. Additionally, OpenAI announced a retroactive payment policy for any vulnerabilities reported within the last 30 days under the previous rates. Alongside these financial incentives, OpenAI is launching an internal security sprint in collaboration with the security firm Cathedral to stress-test its systems.
