Building ambient agents with Amazon Bedrock AgentCore: From event-driven signals to human-in-the-loop workflows
aws ·
This article introduces ambient agents, a paradigm where AI systems react to infrastructure events rather than waiting for user prompts. Using Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, these agents process signals from sources like Amazon S3 or scheduled tasks, executing workflows autonomously while pausing for human approval via a single 'ask_human' tool. The architecture leverages AWS Lambda, SQS, and DynamoDB to create a serverless platform that manages job states and conversation history. A key feature is the human-in-the-loop mechanism, which allows agents to request clarification or authorization before taking high-stakes actions. The reference implementation demonstrates how to build this pattern using LangChain and containerized agents on AgentCore Runtime. This approach reduces manual triage time and enables parallel processing of multiple events without requiring constant human supervision. Organizations can extend the sample by adding custom signal handlers or tools to fit specific business needs.
