Bulwark Dynamics Raises $6.8M in Seed Funding to Develop Autonomous Landing Craft, Inks Agreement to Build in Japan

Bulwark Dynamics, a California-based company, has raised $6.8 million in seed funding and signed a memorandum of understanding with Japan's Onomichi Dockyard for serial production of its Caravel autonomous landing craft. Investors include SBI US Gateway Fund, Archetype Ventures, Nēnē Ventures, and Onomichi Dockyard. The Caravel is an unmanned surface vessel designed to deliver cargo across shorelines without requiring ports, piers, or cranes, and can operate in areas without GPS. The company reported that a 15-foot prototype completed an unmanned transit, beaching, cargo offload, and retraction sequence in early 2026. Bulwark is also developing 35-foot and 55-foot variants capable of carrying one and two twenty-foot equivalent units of containerized cargo, respectively. Initial applications will focus on resupplying U.S. and allied forces across the Indo-Pacific, with potential future use for disaster relief. The vessels are to be built in Japan using Onomichi's existing shipyard facilities, and the company is hiring in the U.S. and Japan.
