ChatGPT Ads passes $1B run rate in 200 days

ChatGPT Ads has reached a $1 billion annualised revenue run rate in under 200 days, and OpenAI is expanding self-service Ads Manager access to India, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. The company places ads within ongoing ChatGPT conversations rather than on separate result pages, and reports that tens of thousands of advertisers now use the platform. Separately, the European Commission has designated ChatGPT as a Very Large Online Search Engine under the Digital Services Act, imposing stricter scrutiny and risk-management duties with a compliance deadline around January 2027. OpenAI states that ads are clearly labelled, kept separate from ChatGPT's responses, do not influence the model's answers, and advertisers do not gain access to private conversations. The advertising system now uses CPC and outcome-optimised bidding for the majority of campaigns and offers tools like product feeds, geographic and device targeting, and custom audiences. OpenAI highlights results such as one ecommerce advertiser achieving a 3x return on ad spend over 28 days and a technology partner claiming over 80 percent of ad-driven ChatGPT traffic came from new customers. The company plans to continue expanding to more markets with new formats and measurement capabilities.
