ChatGPT becomes a full Chrome browser assistant that reads and acts on your open tabs

OpenAI has expanded ChatGPT's capabilities by integrating it directly into the Chrome browser as a full assistant. The new feature allows users to target specific open tabs using the @chrome command, enabling the AI to read and act on web content in real-time. In Chat mode, the tool can pull data from multiple tabs simultaneously to compare products or summarize articles. Work mode utilizes Computer Use technology to control tabs for tasks such as filling out forms, sending messages, downloading files, or organizing windows. This functionality is powered by GPT-6 Astra, which OpenAI claims is currently the best model for complex, multi-step workflows. The upgraded sidebar displays the full chat history adjacent to the viewed webpage for seamless interaction. These enhancements are available across all ChatGPT subscription plans through an updated Chrome extension.
