ChatGPT can now send texts for you with new Apple Messages plug-in
techcrunch ·
OpenAI has launched an Apple Messages plug-in for ChatGPT that lets users connect their Messages inbox to the chatbot. The plug-in allows users to sort, analyze, or edit messages directly from ChatGPT, and it also works with Codex and ChatGPT Work for professional use. A promotional video shows a user asking ChatGPT to suggest follow-up messages based on previous day's contacts. Users can also have ChatGPT delete messages, draft and send texts on their behalf, or search for information buried in message history. Regarding privacy, OpenAI told Bloomberg that the plug-in runs locally on a user's machine and does not create an index of all messages, though specifics remain unclear. OpenAI encourages users to monitor ChatGPT's actions and warns against enabling persistent approval, stating it removes the final chance to review a message before it is sent. TechCrunch has contacted OpenAI for further details.
