ChatGPT now lets you lock your chats
techcrunch ·
OpenAI has introduced a new feature allowing ChatGPT users to lock specific conversations, ensuring privacy when others might access their device. Users can secure these chats using a four-digit PIN or biometric authentication like Face ID and Touch ID on supported devices. Unlike temporary chats that disappear from history, locked conversations remain accessible but are moved to a dedicated section separate from regular chat history and search results. The feature is designed for sensitive discussions, such as personal matters or surprise planning, though it does not provide end-to-end encryption or alter data retention policies. Locked chats utilize a separate memory system, preventing information from leaking into the user's general Memory settings. This update is rolling out across all subscription tiers except for the Healthcare plan, with availability varying by region.
