China’s Acorn Robot Secures Angel Funding, Unveils ‘Instinctive’ Physical AI Model
aiinsider ·
Chinese startup Acorn Robot has secured an angel funding round led by CM Venture Capital and Nio Capital, with participation from Shuimu Tsinghua Alumni Seed Fund, roughly four months after its $15 million seed round. The company is developing Natus AGE-0, a tactile-focused physical AI foundation model intended to let robots work in factories without needing large pre-training datasets. Founded in late 2024 by a team including Tsinghua and Harvard alumni, Acorn targets flexible manufacturing using standardized dual-arm production cells with its own sensors and software. The model relies on tactile sensing and contact mechanics, described as 'instinct-driven,' and is claimed to generalize across hardware, materials, and tasks. Rather than custom integration projects, Acorn pursues a Manufacturing-as-a-Service model, initially targeting consumer goods, daily chemicals, and food production. It recently completed a revenue-generating proof-of-concept on a cosmetics production line, though customer and financial details were not disclosed.
