China’s MirrorMe Unveils Viva Dexterous Hand that Performs Human-Robot Piano Duet
aiinsider ·
Shanghai-based robotics startup MirrorMe Technology has unveiled Viva, a dexterous robotic hand capable of performing real-time piano duets with human players. This demonstration moves beyond simple pre-programmed note playback by utilizing the company's Cada music embodied foundation model to interpret musical intent and execute expressive performances. The system translates artistic choices into precise commands for fingering, touch, force, and timing, while using acoustic and motion feedback to refine its strategy after each run. Hardware specifications highlight the hand's impressive capabilities, including joint speeds exceeding 1,000 degrees per second and peak fingertip forces of 33 newtons. To achieve this balance of speed and strength, Viva employs a tendon-linkage hybrid transmission that reduces distal mass while maintaining stiffness through rigid linkages. MirrorMe views music as a rigorous testbed for combining cognition, creativity, and fine manipulation in physical AI. The company, which traces its origins to a Zhejiang University robotics team, also produces the Bolt humanoid robot and states that its products are currently in mass production.
