China’s RoboParty Launches Open-Source RP1 Humanoid for Robotics Research
aiinsider ·
China-based RoboParty has launched the RP1, a full-stack open-source humanoid robot designed to advance robotics research and embodied AI development. The platform provides developers with comprehensive access to both hardware and software, allowing them to modify mechanical designs, actuators, and control systems rather than relying on closed interfaces. RP1 is available in two configurations: a standard version with 24 actuated degrees of freedom and a Pro version featuring 30 degrees of freedom, including advanced arm capabilities. The system supports modular hardware components such as interchangeable heads and wrists, alongside features like VR teleoperation, motion capture, and simulation-to-real-world workflows. By extending the company's previous RPO project, the RP1 aims to facilitate consistent experimental results by ensuring uniformity across mechanical structure and manufacturing processes. Founder Yi Huang emphasized that opening up these technical resources will allow researchers to truly understand and continuously improve robotic capabilities. The RP1 codebase and design materials are accessible via GitHub, where the related RPO project has already garnered significant community interest.
