China’s Tuya Smart Introduces Doova Companion Robot for Seniors Living Independently
aiinsider ·
China-based Tuya Smart has introduced Doova, an AI home companion robot designed to support seniors living independently, unveiled at IFA 2026 in Berlin. The robot uses lidar, a four-microphone sound-localization system, and AI-based skeletal recognition to detect and respond to emergencies, such as locating a user who calls for help and assessing their condition. If a user does not respond within 60 seconds, Doova can automatically start an emergency response and send a two-way live video call alert to family members. Doova also employs a multimodal large language model for conversation, reminders, weather and schedule updates, entertainment, and help with interpreting bills or identifying scam risks. It can learn user preferences over time and assist with suggestions for meals, gardening, and clothing, with autonomous item-finding planned for the future. When users are away, the robot can monitor rooms, perform 360-degree scans, and generate safety reports on a mobile phone. Doova functions as a smart-home hub within Tuya's AIoT ecosystem, allowing voice control of compatible devices, and it supports autonomous docking and recharging.
