China Slows Humanoid Robot IPO Push as Regulators Scrutinize Valuations
aiinsider ·
Chinese regulators are slowing the pace of humanoid robot initial public offerings to scrutinize high valuations and the sustainability of revenue streams. This regulatory tightening follows Unitree Robotics' volatile market debut, where shares surged fivefold before dropping 55% from their peak. Authorities are closely examining whether income generated from state-backed projects, such as government-funded data-collection centers, reflects genuine commercial demand from independent customers. At least six companies, including Deep Robotics and Agibot, are currently preparing for public listings amidst this heightened scrutiny. Investors are increasingly prioritizing tangible evidence of product viability, order volumes, and actual deployments over technical demonstrations. Consequently, some private-market robotics valuations have already seen reductions of 30% to 50%, with estimates suggesting further drops if state-related revenues are excluded. Despite these hurdles, industry executives indicate that the sector is not retreating but rather maturing toward sustainable business models.
