Claude Opus 5.5 is now available on AWS
aws ·
Anthropic has announced the availability of Claude Opus 5.5 on Amazon Bedrock and the Claude Platform on AWS, marking it as the first model in the Claude 5.5 family. This new version is designed for agentic coding, knowledge work, and long-running tasks, offering improved efficiency by performing more with fewer tokens than its predecessor. Customers benefit from lower per-token prices and reduced costs for cache reads, which collectively decrease the average cost per task. The model features adaptive thinking capabilities that allow it to determine the necessary reasoning depth for each request without manual budgeting. Additionally, Claude Opus 5.5 includes enhanced safety classifiers for biology, cybersecurity, and AI development, leading to more frequent refusals of certain requests compared to previous versions. Developers can access the model through the Amazon Bedrock console, Playground, or programmatically via the Anthropic Messages API and AWS SDKs. It is currently available across multiple global inference profiles and specific regions, including US East and AP Southeast.
