Cognition CEO denies report that SpaceX tried to acquire the startup
techcrunch ·
Bloomberg reported that SpaceX attempted to acquire AI coding startup Cognition, but Cognition CEO Scott Wu denied the report on X, saying the story was inaccurate, the company is not for sale, and the two companies haven't been in talks. The report follows SpaceX's recent $60 billion acquisition of another AI coding startup, Cursor. SpaceX has been pushing into AI after acquiring xAI and going public, though its AI business still trails competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic. AI coding is seen as a key monetization area, and Cognition's coding agent Devin and enterprise clients like Mercedes-Benz, Citi, and Goldman Sachs would fit SpaceX's ambitions. Bloomberg noted that the deal talks are no longer active, but the companies may still collaborate, potentially with Cognition using SpaceX's computing capacity. Cognition recently raised $1 billion at a $25 billion valuation and is reportedly in early talks for a new round at $40 billion, while Wu did not address the specific collaboration claim.
