Crusoe Ends $1.25B Turbine Deal With Boom Supersonic for AI Data Centers
aiinsider ·
Crusoe, a Denver-based AI data center builder, has terminated a $1.25 billion agreement with Boom Supersonic for 29 natural gas turbines intended to power its facilities. The deal, which was scheduled for deliveries starting in 2027, was scrapped despite Crusoe recently securing a $3.9 billion funding round. Boom CEO Blake Scholl confirmed the end of the partnership on X, noting that Boom will still deliver approximately 250 megawatts of Superpower turbines to other clients next year. He added that while the specific launch partnership is over, the companies could collaborate again if turbines become part of Crusoe's primary energy mix. A Crusoe spokesperson clarified that the company’s broader energy strategy remains unchanged and it still intends to use turbines, just not those from Boom. Crusoe continues to build AI factories by selecting diverse energy sources, including wind, solar, batteries, and grid power, tailored to each site. This cancellation represents a setback for Boom, which raised $300 million last year to commercialize its turbine business and support its supersonic jet program.
