Deep Robotics Tests DR02 Humanoids in Hangzhou Traffic and Tourist Areas
aiinsider ·
Deep Robotics has deployed its DR02 humanoid robots in Hangzhou’s Xihu District to evaluate their performance in real-world traffic and tourist environments. The trials, conducted in early October, tested the robots' ability to navigate intersections, direct traffic, and assist visitors amidst heavy crowds and sustained rain. Equipped with IP66 protection, the DR02 units utilized onboard sensing and motion control to avoid pedestrians and vehicles while adjusting hand signals dynamically. In addition to traffic management, the robots served as multilingual guides at locations like Xixi National Wetland Park, answering questions about routes and attractions. The system also employed visual perception to identify safety violations, such as e-bike riders without helmets or overloaded vehicles, issuing voice prompts accordingly. These tests aim to determine if humanoids can handle repetitive advisory duties, thereby freeing human staff for complex emergency response and enforcement tasks. Data collected from these deployments will be used to refine the robot's capabilities for broader public-service applications.
