Discover tools at runtime with AWS Agent Registry
aws ·
AWS has introduced the Agent Registry, a managed service designed to enable runtime discovery of tools and agents for enterprise AI applications. This solution addresses the scalability issues inherent in hardcoded tool configurations, which become unmanageable as internal API catalogs expand into the hundreds. By utilizing semantic and keyword search, an orchestrator can dynamically locate approved Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers or agent-to-agent (A2A) records without requiring code redeployment. The process follows a discover-instantiate-execute loop where the system retrieves connection metadata while keeping authentication credentials separate and secure. Governance is maintained through manual approval workflows that ensure only reviewed capabilities are exposed to consumers. The architecture leverages Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Gateway and Runtime alongside AWS Cognito and Secrets Manager to handle protocol-specific interactions. Demonstrations show the system effectively handling complex queries by chaining different protocols and using semantic matching for ambiguous user intents. This approach decouples publishing from orchestration, allowing teams to deploy new capabilities independently while maintaining strict security and governance controls.
