Disruptive raises $10B fund to make big bets on at least 10 companies
techcrunch ·
Dallas-based investment firm Disruptive has announced a $10 billion fund aimed at backing at least ten late-stage companies. This new vehicle allows for individual investments of up to $1 billion, with a strategic focus on capital-intensive sectors such as artificial intelligence and defense. The firm, founded in 2012 by Alex Davis, previously secured at least $7.5 billion in commitments before the official announcement. This marks Disruptive's first blind-pool fund, shifting away from its historical model of raising capital through deal-by-deal special purpose vehicles. Past successful bets by the firm include major tech entities like Palantir, Airbnb, and Spotify. Bloomberg reports that Disruptive has returned more than $6 billion on approximately $1.9 billion invested in startups. According to local business records, this represents the largest venture fund raised in Texas history.
