DoorDash launches an AI agent you can text to order food
techcrunch ·
DoorDash has introduced a new AI agent that allows users to place food orders directly through Apple Messages. This text-based tool enables customers to send simple prompts, such as 'order my usual,' and the system will interpret their preferences based on past habits. Users can also request specific dishes or local recommendations, with the agent providing suggestions and even sending photos of the recommended meals. The AI is designed to handle complex group orders by accommodating mixed dietary restrictions and varying quantities in a single transaction. This launch positions DoorDash to compete more effectively against rivals like Uber Eats and Grubhub in the evolving market for personal AI assistants. Currently, the feature is available via a waitlist for users in the United States. Additionally, the company announced it will begin testing delivery drones with select restaurants in Northern California.
