Doosan Robotics Selected for Two South Korean Physical AI Projects With Nearly $74M R&D Budget
aiinsider ·
Doosan Robotics has been selected to lead two South Korean government-backed physical AI projects with a combined research and development budget of approximately $74 million. The first initiative focuses on developing collaborative robots and an industrial humanoid that utilize locally processed sensor data via on-device AI chips for real-time perception and control. This project involves creating three cobot models and a humanoid robot, with commercialization targeted for 2031. The second project aims to develop intelligent welding systems using AI and digital-twin technology to automate complex tasks in nuclear power equipment manufacturing. Doosan Robotics intends to achieve over 95% similarity between robot-generated welding paths and those of skilled workers, while also reducing processing time by more than 50%. Approximately $51 million of the total funding comes from the South Korean government, administered by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. These programs involve collaboration with various academic institutions and industry partners to advance domestic semiconductor and AI capabilities.
