Elon Musk Tightens Grok Bot Usage Limits, Citing Unsustainable Costs
aiinsider ·
Elon Musk has intentionally tightened usage limits for the Grok Bot, citing unsustainable operational costs relative to revenue. Users reported that their weekly quotas were unexpectedly maxed out over the Halloween weekend, jumping from partial usage to 100% capacity. Musk confirmed on X that this restriction was a deliberate policy change rather than a system glitch. Despite these financial constraints, Grok Bot remains a significant success story for SpaceX, which recently reported that AI accounts for 52% of its income. The company's Super Intelligence division posted a $431 million profit, although this figure was reduced by $1.2 billion in one-time costs associated with the Cursor acquisition. Musk continues to promote the agent's utility for tasks like buying gifts, even as he addresses cost concerns. He has not yet provided details on how subscriber usage limits will be managed in the future.
