Emerald AI, Google and NVIDIA Launch Alliance to Advance Flexible AI Data Centers
nvidia ·
Emerald AI, Google, and NVIDIA have launched the AI Energy Management Alliance (AEMA) to advance flexible data centers that dynamically manage electricity use based on grid conditions. This coalition aims to accelerate the interconnection of AI infrastructure by treating power flexibility as a critical resource for grid reliability and affordability. Traditional interconnection processes were designed for static demand, but AEMA promotes facilities that can shift workloads or discharge storage to act as controllable resources. The alliance establishes technology-neutral, performance-based requirements focusing on response speed, duration, and emergency behavior rather than specific hardware. By standardizing technical metrics and creating faster pathways for credible commitments, AEMA seeks to reduce uncertainty for developers and defer costly grid upgrades. The initiative convenes the entire AI and power value chain, including utilities, grid operators, and technology providers, to collaborate on interconnection solutions. Ultimately, the goal is to build an AI infrastructure framework that works in harmony with the electrical grid across the United States.
